Steeped in the Bay Area’s jazzy broth of KCSM 91.1, the California Jazz Conservatory, and various SF forays, Nathan Kruse presents a new monthly show: The Shape.
The Shape was created in reaction to the maximalism of the 2010s jazz scene, with all its extended synth solos, fifteen-plus minute saxophone blares, and chorus’d-out sixteenth-note bass runs.
Instead, The Shape explores only the softest grooves, the schmalziest horns, the quietest trumpets—the mellow side of jazz, old and new. Mostly vinyl.
